Album Review:

The album "A Clarion Call" consists of 8 tracks. In its almost 50 minutes duration, you enjoy compositions masterfully tied and elaborately structured in a power/thrash/prog rhythm. Great guitar riffs with lots of turns and cuts, great guitar and synth solos from the virtuoso musicians, very nice dynamic drums and vocals skillfully adapted to each song, sometimes hard and sometimes softer, with the backing vocals fitting exactly to the requirements of each song and the bass to hold the composition together.
Two tracks stand out from the album. The first "King Among Jackals", thematically, is an epic ode to a king who has lost his sovereignty, musically, it is a complex 8-minute composition, starting with an incredible guitar solo, with amazingly tied tempo changes, from power to prog and thrash along with an amazing finale of solo guitar and synth. The second of the two, the instrumental track "Falconer's Cry", with a sound effect of rain and wind in the intro, amazing guitar riffs, basically a prog rhythm with elements of power metal, and amazing solos from all 4 musicians and the end of the track just like the beginning. An ideal track for the finale of the album.

"A Clarion Call" as a whole is an album complex and intricately woven in composition, with varied subject matter in the lyrics, so interesting that metal music fans will definitely appreciate it.

Excellent! 9/10

Band's info:

Through the band’s inception in 2018 to the release of debut LP "The Sibylline Age" in 2022, Idol Throne has sought to blend Bay-Area Thrash, U.S. Power, and Progressive Metal into a unique sound to call their own.
With "A Clarion Call", the quintet simultaneously hone and expand everything that made "Sibylline" special while evolving the boundaries of what Idol Throne is and can be. The band takes the listener on a sonic journey across 8 diverse tracks, from
aggressive, pummeling thrashers and haunting neoclassical excursions to grandiose and powerful multi-part epics and progressive-rock inflected soundscapes. "A Clarion Call" is the sound of a band firing on all cylinders and ready to truly break out onto the scene.

<<  To me, "A Clarion Call" is Idol Throne taking the sound we developed on "The Sibylline Age" and expanding upon it in a way that showcases the growth of this band over the past few years. Not every band makes it to a second album, and not only did we get there, but we created something that I feel truly makes a statement. That’s an accomplishment I couldn’t be happier with.  >>  said co-lead guitarist  and keyboardist Martin Bowman.

<<  2024 marks 6 years that we’ve been creating music together, and on "A Clarion Call" we really sought to be ourselves and to let our inspiration run wild. The result is a record that serves as a summation and celebration of our sound, the places we’ve been, and the places we are headed with this band. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the finished product; its quite a ride!  >>  said co-lead guitarist Jason Schultz.
