Album Review:
Shondha - সন্ধ্যা is a French symphonic metal band, that after three years of formation, they introduce themselves to us by releasing their self-titled first album consisting of 11 tracks of symphonic metal.
The theme of the album is dedicated to a journey of creation, destruction and self-awareness of humanity that starts from ancient Rome and ancient Greece, passes through the age of obscurantism and renaissance and ends in the modern era.
The deeply philosophical lyrics from the talented lyricist Joanna Falco, meshed perfectly with the amazing symphonic metal compositions of the talented composer Lionel Vercellone. Joanna and Lionel are key contributors to the band having produced 9 of the album's 11 tracks. 2 of the 11 tracks were written and composed by the also talented Amine Benabdelmoumen as a guest on the album.
Vercellone's 9 compositions as a whole are created in an orchestral/symphonic metal style, woven with renaissance elements in "Time", with a dose of oriental rhythm in "Janus", a multi-dimensional composition in "Socrates", with an epic/cinematic style in masterpieces "Pompeii" and "Excalibur" which could be used as a soundtrack to historical films, with elements of folk/paganism in "Land Of The North", and with doses of power in "Yellowstone", "Lone Dreamer" and "Last Tree ".
Benabdalmoumen's 2 compositions are also all orchestral metal compositions with "Queen Of The Witches" containing medieval elements making it ideal as a medieval film soundtrack, and the masterpiece "Shondha" woven with gothic elements.
All 11 tracks are a combination of amazing metal riffs, drumrolls and epic orchestration, performed flawlessly by the experienced musicians that make up the band, culminating in the stunning operatic vocals of soprano Lady Nether.
Shondha's first album is amazing in its entirety and is sure to enchant symphonic metal lovers.
