EP Review:

Oblivion Vortex is a newly formed doom metal band introduced to us with their first EP "Into Oblivion". 4 highly experienced musicians from many different genres of metal present us with 4 doom metal gems, "Intro - Lingering In Black", "Oblivion To Come", "Call Of The Void", and "Only The Dead Will Survive".

All tracks are classic two-speed doom metal compositions. We hear heavy and slow riffs, with the imposing drums giving the rhythm more speed, the heavy and deadly bass dominating, the guitars sowing destruction with the wonderful solos and the vocals to be lyrical and give theatricality to the oblivion of darkness. The lyrics have a mortality steeped in sadness and despair.

All 4 songs are equal to each other, so I can't single out any of them, except for the one minute amazing Intro of the EP which is not a separate recording but is included in the song "Lingering In Black" and we hear lightning and Gregorian chanting which I like so much!

The performance of the songs by the 4 musicians is flawless and with professional production. The EP has an artistic and professional quality that defines it as an amazing piece of music. I'm hoping soon for an equal full length album with a record label that can support it.

Doom metal lovers can't pass away Oblivion Vortex's EP "Into Oblivion" because they'll be missing out on a piece of music they love!

Bio:

Oblivion Vortex is a newly formed heavy doom band, featuring musicians with a long experience. The line up is formed by Andrea Marchisio (Highlord, Desdemona, Warnipples) on vocals, Marco Campanati (Extinction) on guitars, Stefano Sofia (Hellbound) on bass, and Claudio Rostagno (Ivory) on drums. "Into Oblivion" is the first, self-produced release of the band, a 4-tracks EP that fully represents its musical proposal. The tracks display all the features of group, a doom influenced heay metal with epic hints and catchy melodies.

The songwriting pays homage to the '80s and '90s masterpieces of the genre, yet sounding fresh and original. The CD was recorded, mixed and mastered in January 2024 at Elnor Studio (Cassano Magnago, MI) by Mattia Stancioiu ((Labyrinth, Crown of Autumn, Vision Divine, and many others). The artwork for the EP, as well as the band's logo, were designed by Stefano Toderico. Oblivion Vortex are now planning some gigs to promote the new EP and their music.
