Album Review:

Nefalem's debut album "A Realm Beyond" offers us a variety of melodic death metal. Based on melodic death metal, they travel compositionally through various paths of metal music, offering the listener a landscape of musical feast, with wonderfully catchy and technically flawless riffs, virtuoso guitar solos and deadly vocals.

Two of the eleven compositions, "Breaching the Gates" (Introduction) and "The Whispering Eidolon" (Interlude), are wonderful Intrumental epic, symphonic compositions with a cinematic aesthetic.

Nefalem also enriches "The Seer" with symphonic parts, in which we hear progressive elements in the imprint left by the guitar and an oriental touch that fits perfectly with the mystical lyrics, and in "Nero", which is a melodic power/death metal composition that beautifully frames the tragedy suffered by Rome by the paranoid emperor. The lyrically inconsistent "Empyrean" is also a wonderful power metal composition.

Progressive parts can also be heard in "Through Bleeding Storms", "Thy Profane Alchemies" and "They Bleed Black", which I could characterize as melodic technical death metal compositions. "The Ashen Spirit" and "Legend" have an elaborately framed composition with a blackened atmosphere, while "The Banerider's Domain" is a wonderful death metal composition with a melodic and catchy riff.

I was impressed by the unusual, for this genre, fade out ending of "Legend", "Empyrean" and "They Bleed Black", which I consider to be an extreme idea of the band for a different acoustic approach.

Overall, Nefalem's debut album is an extremely interesting synthetic work with rich diversity that will not leave any death metal fan unmoved!

Excellent! 9/10

Bio:

Nefalem, the Hungarian melodic death metal quintet, was founded in 2018 by guitarists Balázs Csendőr and Tamás Garai. They were soon joined by bassist Gergely Baricsa, drummer Bence Horváth, and vocalist Ádám Forczek, completing the lineup composed of seasoned musicians from the Hungarian underground metal scene.

Collectively, the members have honed their craft in bands such as Agains The Fall, Absolved, Carana PAdma, Kylfingar, Lovecrose, Needless and Damnation, earning their reputation as well-known and respected figures in their local metal community.

In 2024, Nefalem unleashed their debut album, "A Realm Beyond", an 11-track concept-driven opus exploring themes of false gods, pagan legends, the afterlife, and exploits of dark, baneful heroes. The albums lyrics are set against a backdrop of powerful riffs, intricate melodies, and dynamic compositions that transport listeners to the darkest corners of both history and imagination.
