EP Review:

Self-titled debut EP for Alkemia who wanted to dynamically declare their presence with this EP and they succeeded.

The Alkemia EP consists of 5 rock songs, successfully combined with the heavy style of stoner, the reactionary mood of punk and the relaxed groovy imprint. Raw and simple, without additional touches of beautification in the composition to make it more accessible.

"Unida" has a catchy guitar riff with nice rhythmic grooves, "1+1" and "Piru Merrassa" are subversive punk/rock that the stoner elements makes them slightly compatible, and "Höyrypää", Kääntöpuoli are stoner/rock compositions with a punk background. The guitar solos in all compositions are rich and skillfully executed. The vocals are rough and raw and fit the genre perfectly.

Alkemia, as experienced musicians, as they reveal to us that they are, know exactly what they want to say musically and exactly how they will say it, and I believe that they have already formed their own musical identity in stoner/punk/rock, that will set them apart from the rest of the bands in the genre!

Finnish stoner/punk rock band Alkemia released their debut EP which is named simply as "Alkemia EP", on October 24th 2025 via Inverse Records.

Alkemia’s debut EP recordings began in 2023 with drums, bass, and rhythm guitars tracked at the professional studio of Ammattiopisto Live in Espoo. The remaining guitar overdubs, solos, and vocals were recorded at the band’s rehearsal space in Helsinki. The goal was to capture a live, groovy sound in the songs. Initial mixing difficulties were resolved by switching mixers, with the final mix completed by Ville Siikamäki. The EP aimed for a sound blending Eyehategod and Bad Brains, keeping the overall vibe raw and rock-driven without overly polished details. The EP’s creation took time, as all good alcoholic—er, alchemical—processes do. There was no rush, and the band worked around other commitments, as they noted in their press release.

The band has no concrete plans for the future. Only to keep playing and writing new songs. Some gigs are also lined up for the fall, including the EP release show at Playhouse Bar in Helsinki on November 1st.
