EP Review:
"Revelations" marks the second EP and third official release for Echoes of a Dying World; while primarily considered a melodic death metal band, they do not limit themselves strictly to that genre.
"Revelations" comprises five tracks that tell five distinct stories spanning from the past to the future—stories that appear entirely different from one another, yet reveal themselves as an unfolding of reality.
"Iskariot" is a dense composition that leaves no gaps during its rhythmic shifts. Tijs Vanneste’s guest vocals add depth to the narrative and blend perfectly with Tine Vanmuysen’s wide vocal range. The track also features a fine melodic guitar solo.
"The Rupture" is a rich composition that allows the guitar riff to play with tempo changes; it could be categorized as post/death metal with black metal elements.
"Generational Curses" is a superb blackened death metal track, featuring an excellent guitar solo and dual harsh/growl vocals.
"Mathematical Design" and "Systems in the Dark" are complex progressive death metal compositions, with the latter featuring an impressive old-school heavy metal-style guitar solo at the end. I must certainly highlight the vocal talent of Tine Vanmuysen, who possesses a wide range—spanning from harsh vocals to growls and beautiful clean singing—and transitions between them with great ease.
Overall, "Revelations" showcases the band's remarkable ability to shift between metal subgenres and fuse various elements of these styles into their compositions. Their technical proficiency is impeccable, and their inspiration seems boundless.
The "Revelations" EP will be highly appreciated by fans of extreme metal!
